Ceiling plaster or stucco: These beautiful vintage ceilings were incredibly tough. Many have complex plaster rosettes or fruit in the plaster cast models. They add value for their historical value and time as well. Essentially what you need to do is mix a batch of plaster of Paris and joint compound. It must be very thick soft play-dough. If your ceiling is stucco, you'll need to add a little sand or purchase stucco filling. With a small putty knife or kitchen knife, carefully fill cracks and holes in plaster, to adapt it to shape the missing pieces. You can add a little white glue to the mix if it does not stick properly.
